Missionaries are people sent out by a church into a country or area to carry on evangelism, building projects, education, medical care, food programs and support services. They are moved with compassion to share God’s message of salvation, hope and blessing to those without hope. Everyone should have a chance to hear. Those who receive Christ can be set free of sin, addictions, shame and have a home in heaven and peace and joy in Christ in the midst of their circumstances.
God’s message is “Repent and be baptized for the remission of sins.” Whoever believes in Jesus does not have to perish, but can have everlasting life. This is the message the world needs to hear.
Jesus gave us a commandment to: “Go, make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them God’s Word. Jesus said we were to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and mind, and love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Love instead of hate.
Jesus loves all the children of the world, and so do our missionaries. They reach out to help the little ones as much as possible with food, hope, and encouragement. Malnutrition can cause children to look many years younger than they are.
Recently our church contributed funds for required uniforms and provisions for ten Nicaraguan children to be able to attend school through the missionary efforts of Ken and Kendra Doutt. Schooling is free but restricted to students who have a uniform. As the second poorest nation in the Western hemisphere it is impossible for most families to provide uniforms. 295 children were able to be enrolled in school thru their endeavors.
An AIM Team (Ambassadors in Missions), including one of our teens, was on a ten day trip recently to Nicaragua where they helped missionaries Ken and Kendra Doutt. This provided an opportunity for kids who lived at the Minagua City Dump site to attend camp with supervision and enjoy fellowship with the AIM Team members. Nice, clean campsite, three meals a day, and a bed to sleep in. Unbelievable for these children. The team provided assistance with the feeding programs as well as evangelistic outreaches. A number of our church members have been on other short term mission trips. Perspectives are changed!
Everyone who has received Jesus Christ as their Savior is a missionary. Jesus said a city set on a hill cannot be hid; and men light a candle, not to put under a bushel, but on a candlestick to give light. We have good news, so let’s all share it.
We are light bearers of Jesus, the light of the world. We are to be missionaries, witnesses, of what Jesus did, has done in our lives, and will do for others. Where do we start? Right where we are: at home, school, work, play and around the world. Let’s let Christ’s light shine in and through us!
